Press Release: Local Brewery Scoops Beer Award
Paisley Beer Festival has just ended on a very successful note for the 23rd year running! The hugely popular event held in the Town Hall (starting on Wednesday the 28th April through til Saturday the 1st May) saw thousands of people through it’s doors over the 4 days.
The “Beer of the Festival” award was scooped by the local Kelburn Brewery for their 4.5% ale, Dark Moor. All the beers available at the event were blind-tasted by a panel of beer-tasters and the best 3 were selected by a final panel. Dark Moor came in first place. This is the second time Dark Moor has won an award at Paisley – it received second place at the 2003 festival. It is described as “a beautifully balanced dark, fruity ale with undertones of liquorice and blackcurrant” and is one Kelburn’s permanent ales, available all year round. A spokesperson from the brewery said “We are absolutely thrilled to win this award. To be chosen as the best beer from such a huge range of quality products, is a great recognition for us. The tasting panel obviously thought it was a good beer and we hope that the festival drinkers also thought the same”.
This year the festival featured approximately 170 different draught beers from the UK, as well as various foreign beers, cider, perry and mead. Thirsty customers managed to drink in the region of 20,000 pints over the course of the 4 days. The “English Bar” featured beers from Yorkshire and Derbyshire and in the “Scottish Bar” beers were available to try from various breweries all over Scotland, including the local award-winning Kelburn Brewery.
